When Your Puzzle Doesn't Fit a Standard Board
Our catalog boards are built around standard puzzles: a 1000-piece board is 28¾ × 20¾ in, a 1500 is 36¼ × 29¼ in. Plenty of puzzles don't match those numbers — Springbok and White Mountain runs, oversized or imported puzzles, hand-cut puzzles, a puzzle a friend made for you. Tell us the finished size and we build the board around your puzzle instead of the other way round.
We build to your measurements. Two recent examples: a 28" × 28" board with a storage tray, lid and rotating spinner, sized to a puzzle no stock board would hold, and a 30" × 30" board with a Highland Cow carved into a magnetic lid. If the finished size on your box is not one of our four stock sizes, that is exactly the job we do.
Some oversize puzzles are covered by the 1000 piece XL board (30.5" × 23") — if yours fits that, the stock board is cheaper and faster. If it does not, it comes here.
What Custom Work Looks Like

What Custom Work Costs
These bands come from what we have actually charged for recent work, not from a price list we invented. You get an exact number in writing before you pay anything.

Shipping is a flat $30 anywhere in the United States, on one board or a full kit. We don't ship internationally — if you're outside the US, our Etsy shop is the way to buy a standard board.
How It Works
- Send the brief. Puzzle brand, piece count, the finished size in inches or centimetres, any engraving text, and your deadline if you have one.
- We quote it. A price and a date, in writing, by email. No deposit is taken by this form and nothing is charged until you say go.
- We build it. Photos as it comes together, then it ships, flat rate, anywhere in the US.
What We Need From You
The more exact the numbers, the better the board fits. If you can, assemble the puzzle, or measure the box.
- The puzzle brand and title — Ravensburger, Springbok, White Mountain, a custom print, whatever it is.
- Piece count — 1000, 1500, 2000, or something else entirely.
- Finished dimensions — the assembled puzzle, in inches or centimetres. This is the number that decides the board.
- Engraving text — a name, a date, a dedication. Spell it exactly as it should appear.
- Your deadline — a birthday, a wedding, a holiday. Tell us and we'll tell you honestly whether we can make it.
- Anything else — the stain colour you like, a spinner, handles, artwork or a photo you want carved.
Lead Time
Every board is built to order in Boise, Idaho. Most custom builds leave the workshop within 2–4 weeks; carving, oversize surfaces and complex kits take longer. We confirm the date we can hit in your quote, before you pay, and we would rather tell you no than miss a deadline.

How much does a custom puzzle board cost?
Recent commissions have landed between $275 and $440, depending on size, engraving and extras. An oversize board with a tray and lid is typically $300 to $450, and the complete 2000-piece setup with cover, rotating base and tray is $520.00. Shipping is a flat $30 in the US, and you get an exact quote before you pay.
How long does a custom board take?
Custom work is made to order. Most builds leave the workshop within 2–4 weeks, and carving, oversize surfaces or full kits can take longer. Tell us your deadline in the brief and we will confirm the date we can hit before you pay.
Can you engrave a name, a date, or a picture?
Yes. Names, dates and dedications are the most common, but we have burned knotwork, a mountain scene, a house name and a Highland Cow into boards and lids. Send the exact text and any reference image with your brief.
Do you ship outside the United States?
No — we ship within the US only, for a flat $30. For international orders, our Etsy shop is the place to buy a standard board.
What if something is wrong with my board?
Email us with a photo and we will make it right — replacement or refund. Custom work is quoted in writing before you pay, so the size, the price and the date are agreed before the build starts.
What if I don't know the finished size of my puzzle?
Tell us the brand and piece count and we will work it out with you, or point you at our puzzle board size guide, which lists finished dimensions for the major brands. Measuring the box or an assembled puzzle is the surest way.
